NBA Terminology – Slice Cut

Continuing on with the topic of NBA Terminology, today I am going to briefly go over the Slice Cut. In my opinion, anytime you can give your different cuts names it not only helps to teach your players on offense, but it also provides easy references to yell during games to instruct them to “Watch the Slice Cut..” in the middle of an action.

The NBA typically refers to any cut from the elbow to the opposite post/mid-post area as a Slice Cut. As you can see in the diagrams below it can be a straight cut or the cut can also be made with the aid of a screen.
