Oklahoma City Thunder ATO Loop #NBAPlayoffs

In the closing seconds of their Game 5 victory over the LA Clippers (2014 WC Semi-Finals), Thunder head coach Scott Brooks drew up this BLOB which resulted in Westbrook (1) being fouled taking a 3-pointer. Only down 2 points, I was somewhat baffled when Westbrook decided not to attempt the game tying lay-up but rather dribble out and take the contested 3-pointer (which resulted in 3 points because of the foul).

Brooklyn Nets Short Clock BLOB #NBAPlayoffs

Yesterday’s 1st round Playoffs Game 1 between the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors was an interesting one. For the majority of the 2nd-half, the Raptors PA announcer was the shot clock as the clocks were malfunctioning on both ends of the floor. Jason Kidd drew up the play below with having 3.7 seconds in mind. However, as the Nets broke their timeout, they were informed there was only 2.7 on the shot clock (stop watch). Either way time did not end up being a factor as Pierce was able to break free for this catch & shoot to increase the Nets’ lead.

Arizona State Sun Devils Need 3 BLOB #MarchMadness

In need of 2 points towards the end of the 2nd half, Arizona State’s Herb Sendek drew up this BLOB play for his Sun Devils. Watching the play develop I was sure they would get the ball to 3 curling into the lane, but they decided to wait and use the flare for 2. The shot was off target but ASU secured the offensive rebound to tie the game with two free-throws.

Chicago Bulls Box Out

While last night’s NBA debut and return of Derrick Rose wasn’t as intense as many hyped it to be, from a coaches perspective I was able to pick up a few new extra X & O’s. The Chicago Bulls ran this baseline out of bounds action during their comeback attempt late in the 4th quarter. This play is simple and effective and can be run at any level.

Houston Rockets Triangle Low

This play came from the 2005 Houston Rockets when they ran this play towards the end of a Playoff game. Screen the screener is a very common action out of bounds but the way this play was ran I do not see very often. I also love the pick & roll action right after the catch.
